Was anyone there? I know Allison Fischer's understudy went on...curious how she was. Thanks!

I heard from someone on the Lestat MB that she was FANTASTIC! I guess everyone was gushing over her afterwards.
I'm also very interested in seeing the other understudies go on. As far as I know, Amy was the first principle character standby to go on.
I'd love to see Drew as Lestat.

Actually, Drew still is first cover when and if Hugh is ever out.
They actually have ranked covers in Lestat? Or is that only because Sarich comes before Swenson?
To which one?

Hmm, I'm not sure why he's the first cover, but I've heard he is!

I saw Lestat on Friday and can say with authority that little Amy Sparrow was fantastic! I couldn't stop smiling the second she walked on stage. I'm not sure that a more adorable and talented 12 year old actually exists.
Amy has evidently been the Claudia standby since the beginning and Friday was the first time she performed the role in front of an audience. She must have been so excited and nervous and she should be commended for being so mature and so professional at such a young age.
As far as a genuine critic goes, it was certainly a different performance from Allison. She had a very different energy. Her voice is beautiful, with an unexpected vibrato, but doesn't have the belt the Allison does to really bring the house down for "I Want More". Her "I'll Never Have That Chance" couldn't have been better. Pretty and sweet, and man, when she flashes those dimples, you really feel for her.
I think I actually preferred her acting of the role to Allison's though. Don't get me wrong, I love Allison, but when you watch her do the part she's acting like a child and then she's doing Claudia- but since Amy's already so much closer to the character's age her portrayal seemed a little more honest. Amy also seems to lack the ability to scream, which brought a different quality to role in general.
So to recap: Amy Sparrow's fresh take on Claudia was absolutely wonderful. Also while I'm here I may as well clear up the fact that yes, Drew Sarich is the first to be bumped up to Lestat if Hugh can't do the show. It's the same way with all the understudies for the show, and I imagine at most shows. I mean what did you think, if Hugh can't do the show Drew and Will rock, paper, scissors for it?
No: rock, paper, light saber!
Sorry.
Thanks for the review of Amy! I actually saw her at the stage door in SF and thought she looked familiar, and then I heard some other people call her name and realized who she was. She was so tall it threw me off.
I was there Friday as well, and Amy did a wonderful job. the whole time I was watching her all I could think was.. "wow she is 12?" What a beautiful and talented young girl. As stated she does not have the expected belt for I want more, but holds her won. She acted the role and if that little chit of paper was not in our playbills... many would never have known. She was nervous and it was just adorable. I was able to speak with her after the show, and she was just beaming! There was not a more pround girl on broadway that night!
hugh and carolee were great, and were lovely to speak with after the show.

Just a quick correction: there are never any "official" first and second covers for a role anymore. Broadway stopped doing that officially.
However, the cast usually knows who's first on and who is second. But, it is more of an unspoken thing now.
Aha, that's what I thought...
Thanks for the reviews. I would have loved the opportunity to see Amy in action.
