Since I read Ken Mandelbaum's book on Michael Bennett, I've become increasingly interested with the show Scandal.
Bob Avian made it very clear that he wouldn't touch the show -- but that was said in 1990. The cast -- Swoozie Kurtz, Treat Williams, Victor Garber, David Rasche, Priscilla Lopez, etc. -- are twenty-five years older (still, in a world where Cheno's considered a girl...).
I'm wondering, if they were to attempt a studio cast recording, or film a benefit concert (so we can see that choreography), would I be the only person shelling out money for it?
Also, as long as I'm playing God, let's take away Michael Bennett's AIDS. That would have likely meant Scandal would play the Mark Hellinger, kicking Grind to the curb (then again, the Gershwin and -- I think -- the Minskoff were free, if they wanted to keep the show in the Nederlander family).
In this alternate universe, do you think the Mark Hellinger would have stayed open longer, and that Scandal and Grind would have both been hits (or at least led to there actually being a Best Actor/Actress in a Musical at that year's Tony's)?
