And the prices were ridiculous.

From an SHN Facebook update:

"09/10 season update: Still working on finalizing the shows on the season and we hope to announce in mid-July. Stay tuned and thanks for your patience!"

And if the producers are smart, if they can't give it to both and have to pick one city, they'll go with Chicago. Broadway in Chicago is much better at marketing, and is generally easier to work with. I love SF, but B'way in Chicago is one of the best presenters of national tours in the country. I would rank SHN as 5 or 6 out of the top ten.

Wait, where does it say that? If it is true, I can't help but wonder how correct the supposed leak was, if it's taken them this long, there may have been some change

It might not be a complete upset. It's mentioned at the end of this article announcing the Chicago produciton of Billy Elliot, that the producers may put together another production of the show possibly for SF a few months after the Chicago is up and running.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Most likely. Now here's to hoping for HAIR or Next to Normal. But expecting another show just making a stop in SF instead of making a tour kick-off.

Disappointing how SHN hasn't been able to get very many premieres in the past couple seasons. Chicago gets a plethora of shows including Young Frankenstein, Billy Elliot, Shrek the Musical and also Mary Poppins. I'm not saying that I'm crazy about these shows and others, but the multitude of shows and premieres that Chicago is able to get...

Wait, if it comes to SF after 6 months in Chicago, couldn't it premiere in September of 2010 and still be part of this current season, or would it be the first show of 2010-2011?

If they are able to get BILLY this coming season, I'll be surprised. The show will run in Chicago indefinitely, until people stop buying tickets according to the producers. BIC is a better marketing force than SHN, so it's not surprising. Plus, Chicago has shown itself to be able to hold more than one open-end long run at a time, SF hasn't. With WICKED dominating SF's market for long runs right now, it's smart to stay away until the green girl vacates.
