Li'l Abner - Plot Synopsis

I've been filling in my CD collection gaps and finally got round to purchasing the remastered 'Li'l Abner' - now I have a vague idea of the plot Dogpatch being used as a nuclear testing site, but that's about it. Its such an American show that I can't find any record of it having been performed anytime in the UK, so anyone able to provide a synopsis and bit of background?

I think the show was considered too "American" to transfer to the UK.

Thanks for finding that link, allofmylife, that would have taken a hell of a lot of typing.

And, yes, production of "Li'l Abner" would go over in the U.K. about as well as a production of the "Andy Capp" musical would over here. Even with his cheezy fries available in every mini-mart...

NOW, the show would play perfectly in London because you poor lads and ladies have been exposed to Jerry Springer and his trailerpark menangerie.
