Any thoughts on who should get it this time around?
I figured Jonathan Tunick. He's orchestrated a hell of a lot of shows, as well as composing and conducting a handful of film and television stuff. And I'm not sure if he recieved a special Tony already.
Or maybe somebody else deserves it more. He just came to my mind.

The only Tony Laurents should get is the one who just left his production

There are always many people deserving of a lifetime achievement award, but the name that popped into my mind is Julie Andrews.
She was a part of two classic productions -- "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot" -- but surprisingly, has never won a Tony. Even though she really hasn't spent that much time on the Broadway stage compared to others, she has been one of the most visible supporters of Broadway theater through her work in film, in concert, in recording, and on television. She has even been a past Tony Awards host.
(And I think enough time has passed since the whole "Victor Victoria" mess, so I think she could now be considered a viable recipient.)
Agreed about Julie Andrews. To be honest, I assumed she had a Tony before opening this thread.
Did Angela Lansbury already receive it?

I am prejudiced, being a composer and Musical Director (not in NY) but I think it would be nice (at the very least) if the Committee took into account the stupidity of the Tony not being presented in the "Musical Director" category, and gave it to one of these amazing individuals who've done farrrrrr more work than, say, "Sound Design" personnel, and give the award in this arena. Paul Gemignani gets my vote.

Yeah, at first I was also thinking Paul Gemignani as well. But then I looked it up and apparently he already got the award in 2001.
Oh and BroadwayBound, I don't think Lansbury recieved one
I'd like to see John Kander get it next year, but who know what will happen? Dame Julie would be nice too.
