Posted: 8/9/05 at 6:19pmI have just recently purchased TLITP (I know, I know, I'm late), it's such a great recording. Anyway, I was wondering would La Passigieta (sp?), could ever be used as an audition piece. I was thinking maybe the part from where he starts "I am work here in the tie shop", until the end. Or maybe to make it shorter, start with the "Ahhh, Ahhh", then go on. I think the Ahs make it possible to show a more softer/legit? sounding voice, then you can still belt the notes at the end. Yay? Nay?

I would avoid doing a song that requires an accent as an audition piece, unless specifically asked to do so.

It it spelled Passeggiata for future reference, and I agree with Bobby... don't use it as an audition piece unless you are trying out for a part with an accent. Even then, I think I wouldn't reccommend that song for an audition piece unless you can perform it really well... I can't think of any musicals that you would need this type of accent for either. I would definitely not reccomend it for college auditions, because of (1) apparently there is a five year rule or so, and (2) because it shouldn't be used for that. Sing it for fun... I'm sure it could be used for an audition piece, just be careful where and when you use it.

Posted: 8/9/05 at 11:30pmI agree. In addition it's a bit too show specific. Fabrizio's solo stuff is like that. It's not very universal. One song in italian, the other is a duet, the third is a scene. Now Love to Me would make an awesome audition song. It's light and beautiful. The only problem with that song is that it is written in a very od time signature. Not the easiest thing to sight-read, but it's totally doable.

Posted: 8/10/05 at 12:25amIt's not. Even if it were, I wouldn't do it until the show closed, at the LEAST.

Posted: 8/10/05 at 6:27amIt's fairly common knowledge that you don't perform a song from a currently running show as an audition piece. It's too fresh in the memories of the casting people and they instantly compare you with the person who sings it in the show - and the accent really works against you unless you are auditioning for Fabrizio or a similar character. Do yourself a favor and pick something else from the huge cannon of tradiional musical theatre pieces - believe me, if you do your homework, you can find something that not only works for your type and voice, but also shows personality, and might even be something they've never heard before (or at least not for a very long time) That's the kind of song to be singing at auditions, unless you are asked to sing specifically from the show you are auditioning for.
