caitlinette: Again, my impression is more that it was how they played the character. Celia played Clara more like she was mentally a child than Kelli did. The problem with LitP is balancing Clara's character so that she comes across as a realistic head trauma victim, but without making her relationship with Fabrizio creepy.

If you've read the novella and/or seen the movie, Clara is portrayed as very immature, and it made the relationship rather uncomfortable for me, especially because it's like "Oh, Italians won't care, it's not like they do anything that mentally taxing anyway." I think Katie had the right mix, with Celia being a little too childish and Kelli being a little too mature.
