So I know that Lion King doesn't have the best rep because of the whole..disney thing. Is this still a good show? I am going to NYC with a friend's family and they made all of our show reservations and bought us tickets for this. I've always been a little weary about disney shows, but I've heard good things about this show. Thoughts?

At three minutes past eight, the curtain goes up, and you've got to pretend to believe, because no one else will believe you unless you believe it yourself. A great deal of our work is simply making ourselves dream. That is the task. At three minutes past eight,YOU MUST DREAM."

I haven't seen the show, but I've heard that the costumes were amazing. From the looks of it, it doesn't look bad. Sorry I'm not much of a help.

I've, unfortunately seen the show 3 times. The costumes are yes, amazing, as is the staging of the entire thing, but that's not enough to save the show. The opening number is fantastic, but after that the whole show is mechanical and lacks substance. The music from the movie is as good as it was there, but the new numbers are terrible. Not worth 3 hours and $60.

If it's your first time seeing it is definately worth $100 a ticket. IMO, and many others, its one of the most fantastic shows on broadway.

I have to agree with ALWrules on this... the costumes and the set/staging are by far the best thing about the show. Other than that, it isn't much more than the movie, on stage. It can be fun and enjoyable however, just not one of those amazing theatre experiences(at least it wasn't for me). I haven't seen any of the current cast, but when I saw it about 4 years ago everyone was incredibly talented, and the dancing stuck out in my mind.

I agree with Greenegirl. The costumes, set, & lighting made the show. The story & score is nothing new but I enjoyed it a lot!

If you're being forced to see it, you'll be alright. Its not an entertaining show, but its nothing mind blowing. You won't be hit w/ much emotion or humor for that matter.

I'd have to say it's my fav. Disney musical because it's so different, well Aida is good...but..

Lion King is fun. I am biased because I've seen it so many times, but I really love it. I do think "I just can't wait to be King" is the corniest part of the show, but it's there to entertain kids as well as adults.

The costumes are amazing and the lighting is beautiful. The new songs are great. They did just change a part in the opening of Act 2. It's so amazing to hear the harmonies of the voices, etc.

Ofcourse it has it's stupid parts like any show, but either way you should have a fun time even if you don't care to see it again.

I haven't seen the show, but when tickets are available on TDF in 15 years, I'd be willing to spend the $35 because the costumes look amazing.

YES! i saw the original touring cast and I thought they were great. I have never been to New York so I do not know what to tell you about the cast, but the costumes and sets were fabulous. It was very artistic and made the movie look terrible lol. I remember after seeing the show then the movie it made it seem as if the movie was taken from the show.
I'm sure you will enjoy it

I agree, the new songs are pretty good, but the Older Simba I saw on tour was way too over-animated. But I still think you'll have a good time. Just don't expect it affect you as much as like RENT or Light in the Piazza or something along those lines.

I never seen the show and haven't heard the whole recording but the two (new) songs i've heard "They live in you" and "He lives in you" I like.

This is a show I want to see, but then dont. If someone gave me tickets, i'll go see it.

It depends on the person for the Adult Simba. I've seen a few and some are way too animated, but all that I have seen have had a great voice.

I think it depends on the person if they will get anything out of the musical. "Endless Night" really hit home for me and I think it's a great song. "He Lives in You", etc. are great too.

IT all depends on what you are looking to get out of it. I love the show, but it shouldnt be taken too seriously.

Honestly the only thing that really bothered me was all the nooisy children in the theatre, but the costumes and facinating.

Some of the new songs are a bit corney "chow down" for instance, and because they are so many composers, the songs dont always mesh. IMO act 2 has 2 of the best songs "Shadowland" (aslong as Nala is a good singer) and "He Lives IN You" (once Rafiki gets her grove on)

yeah chow down isn't the greatest. I forgot about that song..lol. Most of the new songs are great with the exception to that. We get more Lebo and African style in the show which is great.

If you go on week nights I would assume that there are less kids. The weekends can be much with tons of kids, but if you have good kids around you it's fun to hear them laugh and get into the show.
