I've never seen Carnival, either, which I believe also has some puppets in it. I would dearly love to see Flahooley, but I have shows booked in all my available time slots. The North York Civic Light Opera Company here in Toronto specializes in doing shows like Flahooley. This year one of the four shows they are putting on is Richard Rodgers-Sheldon Harnick's Rex, which I never thought I would get the chance to see. They did I Remember Mama a couple of years back.

The little known scores I keep returning to (off the top of my head):
1. House of Flowers
2. Passion Flower Hotel
3. The News (a weird Broadway flop from the mid-80s with Jeff Conaway)
4. Sensations (amazing off-Bdwy Romeo and Juliet musical)
5. Rockabye Hamlet
6. Saratoga (I <3 Arlen)
7. Whoop-Up
8. Flahooley
9. Moby Dick (West End cast)
10. Let It Ride!
and thinking about, it I could just go on and on.....

Posted: 12/5/09 at 10:20pmRockabye Hamlet is never boring. Cliff Jones is still working on it and it has gone through several title changes, the latest being "Something's Rocking in Denmark." There are sooo many lovely songs. "Who can I sing my song to/if not to youuuu?" Hearing D'Angelo rock out is a treasured experience.

I was just listening to the song, The Christmas Child, and immediately thought of this thread. Irma La Douce has such a delightful score. I'd actually love to see this show brushed up a bit and considered for revival.
I do enjoy listening to the original West End recordings of Moby Dick and Metropolis and, dare I say it, I think there is much to like in Heathcliff (though the production was hideous).

A handbag/A handbag/is not a proper mother...
My cd of Ernest in Love just showed up today and I couldn't be more thrilled. This is one show I thought might never seen a cd release and it is definitely among my favorite scores. Every song is precious. If you haven't investigated it check it out. Lee Pockriss should not be known just for Tovarich. (Side note: I saw a workshop of his musical of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? It was pretty interesting, and had a Pockriss sounding score as you would hope.)
I too love Moby Dick and Metropolis. Mister Matt: Which album of Heathcliff would you recommend?

I had the pleasure of seeing Via - one of the biggest bombs in broadway history. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

Gavin, I'd recommend actually seeing HEATHCLIFFE over listening to the soundtrack as some of the tunes are VERY, VERY monotonous. It was professionally filmed. There are a few different recordings, all featuring Cliff Richard but at least one has Olivia Newton John though I actually prefer her stage counterpart. John just did it because her songwriting team (same as XANADU) contributed to the score, as well as Tim Rice, and Cliff is an old friend.
Not that the staging wasn't monotonous but at least there were lots of cool green laser effects!
And the melody for the marriage vow song will NEVER get out of your head once you've heard it... EVER.
