Posted: 7/17/10 at 11:18ampeople outside of NY and the theatre community are much more accepting of shows despite flaws. a big name Disney movie/character/show will definitely do well, and the Little Mermaid is one of the most cherished Disney movies of all time. That will entice a lot of people to the theatre to see it when it is right in their own city, even if they didnt think it was worth going all the way to NYC for. It may not have been the best for broadway, but i think it will make a fantastic tour.

True BroadwayBound. But CryBaby out of town isn't a fair comparison for out of town sales... it was in a theatre that was under 500 seats (The Mandel Weiss at La Jolla Playhouse). Not hard for a Broadway musical to sell really well in that space.

If we had a poll on this site as to which what people thought would sell better, comparing Shrek to The Little Mermaid, I am sure it would be Mermaid.
