I saw the show and Loved it.
The score is so hummable and the talent is very strong. Funny no one mentioned the obvious on the reviews. The Mercury News is the season sponsor of TheatreWorks. That's a mandatory one star deduction in the Chron and Trib.
I take my theatre reviews like my wine reviews-- it doesn't matter what some self-proclaimed exper's opinion is. If I like it, I like it. And I think I'm more like the average ticket buyer than most reviewers. The show was thoroughly entertaiing.
I might also add to someone's comment that it's destined for community theatre-- I hope so! There are so many kids (especially girls) who love theatre, and you can only do Annie and Oliver so many times...

Well that explains why The Mercury News didn't review the show. I had been looking for their review with no luck. However, I don't buy your explanation of why the Chronicle and Tribune didn't like it.

And we'll be seeing posts again from them........?

leave it to the Merc to be on the ball! oh well, with all the cash they spend each yeah sponsoring various theatres in the area, they can review the shows during strike for all I care.

"Welcome to the Board, new poster." Geez... a regular New York welcome. Pelt me with a Duracell, why don't you?
Pardon me for recently discovering it.
Um, I have commented elsewhere, and for the record, I was (well, half-) kidding about the mandatory deduction by non-Merc reviewers.... Updated On: 9/3/04 at 01:36 PM

A little late to bump, but I just wanted to know who the little girl playing the lead was. I think I'm in love with her, so I figured I should learn her name. And how old is this girl because she can SANG.

rumor has it Lippa had a lot of trouble working with the book writer...

I've heard some of the demos and it seemed kinda mediocre...it just didn't have much punch behind it.
