Little Shop at Rutgers?

Just found out that my friend took her kinds to see "Little Shop..." at Rutgers (in NJ) today. Anyone know anything about this production?

It's probably terrible.

They're doing Ragtime in the spring...I can't wait to see one of my favorite shows butchered beyond the telling of it.

Ok, Spill...why is it horrid? Their archive pics don't seem so bad.

I don't think there's really anything to explain...if you've ever seen a show here, you'd understand.

Basically, we don't have a musical theatre major (at least I don't think we do...if we do, b*tches is getting ripped off)...and I think that becomes more than evident when watching any production.

I was going to see Little Shop last night, but I couldn't get drunk enough to convince myself to go.

There is a musical theater major there, but it's part of Mason Gross School of the Arts, who has their own theater company. This company is basically for "the others."

Their biggest problem (and has been sincetheir early days when I was an undergraduate there) is that they try to stage elaborate, large-scale musicals in what is essentially a black box theater. That, and they're completely unprofessional- they start performances over an hour late because often they're still rehearsing or putting up the set.

Andyf, you're right...if you see a show there, you'll understand. High schools put on higher quality productions than this.

Wow not knowing that Rutgers has a musical theatre major, says a lot about mason gross. There were days when any local student wanting to pursue performing arts new two names off the bat tisch and mason gross.

Yea, the previous director from the last production I was involved in recommended to call the Company (if I can call it that) to participate in the pit for 'Ragtime'. After hearing the word of mouth about 'Little Shop', I'm quite skeptical.

Hahaha, yeah. That's a big reason I'm excited to see them stage Ragtime...the opening should be a lot of fun. I can't imagine them being able to get all of the character parts into that space, let alone any sort of ensemble.
