I saw pictures of this alternate ending on the "From Stage To Screen" website, and hated them. It was too scary- and then became a horror film rather than a dark comedy.

Yeah, me too. About craped my pants there......that may have been too much information. I'm planning on seeing the show in March.

When the DVD was first released, it contained the alternate ending. But all the copies were pulled because they didn't have the okay to have included it and Frank Oz was furious.

I've always wanted to see this. I also saw photos once of the entire Meek Shall Inherit that was filmed, but later cut. I never liked the happy ending in the film. The original ending is much more interesting.

Actually, I believe it was Mr. Geffen who was furious, not Mr. Oz, at least that is my understanding. Mr. Oz would not have the power to have the DVD pulled, whereas Mr. Geffen absolutely would.

The rumor at the the time was that Geffen simply wanted to clean up the footage and re-release it. It's never been put back out though, explaining why the DVD tends to get big bucks on ebay.
