Little Women Boston 1/15/06 Evening

Just got back from the Opera House in Boston. Had great seats...orch left row D. Andrew Varela was out as Professor Bhaer and James Darrah was in. Kate Fisher was out...anyone know if she was at the matinee? Anyways I went to this show not as excited as I was when I saw Hairspray, The Producers, or 42nd Street, but I was still looking forward to it. The first act was very long...not as long as the second act though. I would guess the show ran about 2.5 hours.

Maureen McGovern is amazing! Susan Spencer was on as Jo. I didn't know what Kate Fisher sounds like, but for some reason I always just assume that the understudy is not as good as the person hired to play the part, but she was really good! Susan has a wonderful voice and it almost reminded me of Sutton's at some points. Not disappointed in her performance at all.

I want to keep the review brief, so, to sum it up...the entire cast gave an "astonishing" performance. Not the best thing I have seen, but I wasn't as bored as I thought I would be. Another thing, there were a lot of women there...I think this is a good mother/daughter show. Very sentimental and heartwarming.

thats not really a fair assumption. i dont think ive ever been dissapointed with u/s, especially female u/s. that being said, good to know the show is doing well

Yeah, I've hardly read any reviews of Julie Burdick (or, now, her replacement), but a lot of people have seen Susan. I've seen both Kate Fisher and Susan and loved them both.

According to the Playbill, the other standby is Cary Michelle Miller. She has a hell of a job also as standby for Meg, Beth, and Amy!

I saw Andrew Varela on Broadway when he was standby for John Hickok and I saw Susan Spencer as Factorygirl/girl #5 in Les Mis. She played my favorite role lol. Was she quite exceptional as Jo?

I can't really say whether or not she was exceptional because I have no one to compare her to, unless I can go buy the clips of Sutton Foster who has one helluva voice! She was really good though!

I read Susan Spencer was Fantine in the final performance of Les Mis.

EDIT: I just read in the playbill...Susan Spencer was last seen on Bway in the final cast of Les Mis (Fantine). I checked on a website and she was the understudy for Fantine.

Kate Fisher is out at least one show a week because the producers want it that way. They don't want her to strain her voice, get tired, etc... so they have her sit out at least one show a week.

The last Fantine on Broadway was Jayne Paterson. Susan was actually the last factory girl on Broadway. :)

well, i saw the broadway show and reccomend it, but havent seen the tour

and millie_dillmount, you're from the pickwick club, right?

If you're looking for a night of flashy fun, then I don't recommend the tour. If you want a heartwarming and sentimental evening, then by all means, go see it.

Yes I am from the Pickwick Club but I never post on there...I should now that I saw the show!

im from there too, but i dont post there either (its pretty dead now) i transferred over here...
