Little Women Tour- Charlotte- 1/7
#0Little Women Tour- Charlotte- 1/7
Posted: 1/8/06 at 1:22amSo I just got back from Charlotte a few mintues ago. This is going to be very short and sweet. I saw the show last Spring in NYC and loved it. Tonights show was absolutely amazing. Maureen McGovern is such a talented woman. When she sings "Days of Plenty", it is over for me. I'm so glad she is apart of the tour. I thought that Kate Fisher sounds freakishly like Sutton Foster sometimes, did anyone else notice this? Even her speaking voice. It was bizarre. The rest of the cast was also great. Anyways, if the tour comes to your area, I would definitely recommend seeing it. xoxox <3 TD

Posted: 1/8/06 at 1:28amI thought she did sound a LOT like Sutton Foster, but I've never seen her in anything before (I saw the Les Miz tour before she joined and then again after she left), so I wasn't sure if she normally sounded like that or was directed to. Susan Spencer's Jo was also very similar in delivery, though, so it's more likely the latter.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 9:27amShe is most definitely with the tour. I saw her last night as Amy. She was pretty good. I liked her a lot better than Amy M. I thought the weakest sister was Beth- Autumn Hurlbert. The theatre was actually pretty full. We sat in Orchestra Center, row G... virtually perfect seats in that theatre. I wonder if all of the Jo's are directed to sound like Sutton. lol. Who knows.

According to the program copy (to be used as of 12/17/05) and the official site, Cary Michele Miller is now with the cast.
CARY MICHELE MILLER (Stand-by for Beth/Rodrigo Too, Meg/Clarissa, Amy/The Troll, Jo). Broadway/Tours: Saturday Night Fever, Seussical with Cathy Rigby. Other favorite roles: Into the Woods (Lil' Red), Fiddler with Paul Sorvino (Chava), Beauty and the Beast (Plate). Love to family, friends, Aron and my new nephew Zane.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 9:48amHmmm, the Belk Theatre must have used the wrong program copy or Julie is back from some reason.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 9:59amThe program is being used from January 3-8...so if it is wrong, then a lot of people are misinformed.......The girl looked like Julie's headshot though.

Posted: 1/8/06 at 11:48amI am glad you liked the show. I work for the Performing Arts Center in Charlotte and ticket sales have been surprisingly really good for the show. We got burned earlier in the year by the Doctor Dolittle cancellation so a lot of people who originally had tickets to that show switched into Little Women instead--and I think they are glad they did.

Glad you liked the tour...I loved it. Maureen McGovern has a way of making every note sound so effortless. It's a beautiful show, and I'd love to be a part of it someday.
I saw Susan Spencer (I was pleasantly surprised by her performance), and she did sound a lot like Sutton. All Jo's are probably directed to act that way, to a certain extent.

I saw the Saturday matinee in Charlotte, and Julie was in the program and went on as Amy. Though I found her too tall to play Amy, I thought she was the strongest out of the 4 girls. Maureen Mcgovern was amazing, I found Kate Fisher to be pretty disapointing as with the girls who played Meg and Beth, but that's just my personal opinion.
Had I not seen it on Broadway and when it was at Duke, maybe I would have liked this cast better.

Posted: 1/9/06 at 11:57amI sent my friend and her 21-year-old daughter to see Little Women on 1/5 in Charlotte as a Christmas present. They LOVE broadway, but aren't able to make it up to NY very often. They loved the show and thought the performances across the board were very strong. I couldn't think of what to do for them and thought it was such luck on my part that Little Women was playing in Charlotte at that particular time. I couldn't have thought of a better gift for a mother and daughter!

I saw the tour in Detroit, (the final day) and met the cast as they came out the stage door. *it was amazing how much stuff they had packed up before the show even ended..(they were getting ready to go to Charlotte)*
I also saw SUSAN SPENCER.. who, DID sound a LOT like Sutton. Funny, my friend's mom went to high school with her. My friend wrote to Susan, and Susan graciously gave her her address, cell phone number, and everything. Kinda cool. Too bad SHE didn't come out the stage door, we could've gotten a backstage tour!
anyways, it's a GREAT musical, but i doubt it will go on for long. My local community theater is already thinking about doing it in 2008.

I saw Susan Spencer as well. I really liked her, but I did think that she tended to back off from the really big notes, whereas, on the recording, Sutton just went for it. I don't know. . . I really liked her, that just sort of gave me pause. I did think it was really cute that she's married to "Professor Bhaer." It almost made it more poignant for me, because I was never a Bhaer fan. It was always Laurie for me when I read the book. However, they were really cute together and at the end, when she made her bow, he blew her a kiss. It was really sweet.
I LOVED Maureen McGovern!! I completely agree that she makes it all sound so effortless. "Here Alone" and "Days of Plenty" both make me cry but especially the latter. When she gets to the "So believe that she mattered-- And believe that she always will--" part, I lose it. I was so excited to see her but I was a little afraid because those notes are so big and so powerful that I thought she might not do it live. And she did. She belted them like there was nothing to it and I sobbed!!
When I saw it, I brought my mom with me and my mom had never been to the theater and doesn't really like musicals, but she adored it and now it's the only thing she listens to in the car. In fact, she even got my 2-year old nephew singing along. His favorites are "I'd Be Delighted" and "Off to Massachusetts." He sings along with them every time.

I caught the tour here in Orange County and I loved it. I am a HUGE Maureen McGovern fan and to finally see her live was just amazing. She has the most fantastic voice and makes everything she sings sound so effortless. I thought Kate Fisher's Jo was really good I enjoyed her performance. I am seeing it again when it comes back to Los Angeles in August.
Enjoy the tour!!
