Last night, I was attended a Boston Pops concert, and found that Liz Callaway was performing with them for the night. The name sounded vaguely familiar to me, and looking at her bio, I saw she won a Tony Award for 'Baby' and also originated the role of Ellen in 'Miss Saigon'. This surprise was certainly a treat. She came on, singing a several song set featuring songs from the 1960s. Ms Callaway is certainly a talent. She sang a wide variety of songs, ranging from "How to Succeed" to "Half as Big as Life" (from 'Promises, Promises') to "Frank Mills" (from Hair) to "And the Beat Goes On". She put on a great show, earning a well-deserved standing ovation after her final set.
In the program and during the performance, she mentioned she has a few CDs out - I was wondering, which CDs should I look into to get the best of Liz? I'd prefer her singing showtunes (those seemed to be her strongest songs), but any songs will do. Thanks!

Sibling Revelry $9.98 new or $6.24 used.
You need to get this cd if only for the best versions of "Meadowlark" and "My Heart Is So Full Of You" bar none.

She also has a Frank Loesser cd, Anywhere I Wander, that is quite good. "I Wish I Didn't Love You So" is one of the stand-out numbers.

Posted: 8/7/05 at 6:30pmIt is hard. I have come across like that many times before. I'm glad you posted that bit of information. It sounded snippy but I learned something I didn't know. Also, tone is hard to decypher on a wriiten message.

i know it thrashes my head! You can say something completely innocent and it's taken completely out of context! Snippy? Never heard that term before... the pond has a tendancy of altering colloquial language

She didn't win the Tony for Baby. She was nominated and lost to Lila Kedrova (Zorba).
That said, she has one hell of a voice.

Here is a link to a very nice interview with Liz Callaway -- a bit old by now, but worth reading nonetheless to get a sense of the person.
