I just read about this in the Liz Callaway e-mailed newsletter. I know there was an earlier thread about this show in September, but I don't think any cast had been announced at that point. I wish I could get to Atlanta to see her! I wonder what the odds really are of it moving on to Broadway, or perhaps touring? Here's what the e-mail said: "The big news is that Liz has been cast in the upcoming world premiere of iSondheim: A Musical Revue at the ALLIANCE THEATRE in Atlanta, GA from April 15 – May 10, 2009. James Lapine will direct this new show, and there are hopes that this may just be the initial stop on the way to New York."
I'll put a link to the Alliance Theatre Web site, but they really don't give any information about the content of the show, or mention any of the cast. Alliance Theatre
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
