As I was reading on 1 of the boards about Lorna, I recalled having seen Lorna singing in a night club several (many?) yrs ago in NYC. Anyone remember this? Was it Rainbow & Stars?

I distinctly remember thinking that Lorna sounded like young Judy & Liza the more "mature" Judy.

Lorna has a wonderful singing voice, and Liza is definitely the performer in the family...though I've never had the pleasure of seeing Lorna live.

I recall Lorna in a show I saw when I was younger. I cannot recall where but she does have a very pleasant singing voice.

Yes, Grease 2 can be added to my list of Guilty Pleasure movies.
LOL that Seasons song was like a knockoff of "His Love Makes Me Beautiful" from Funny Girl. And who doesn't love Michelle's pointless solo in the middle of that song. Tell me how she won that contest when that part of the song had nothing to do with the seasons!? And yet, I still watch it.

I was lucky to see Lorna Luft's Songs My Mother Taught Me, in Atlantic City in Jan 2002. She, it was great. I can only hope that she brings it back to the NYC area....

I'll go for Lorna in this debate. Better singer and actress, especially now. She has Broadway credits too, at 19 she took over the female lead in Promises, Promises and played Adelaide on tour and on Broadway in the most recent revival. She was Sonia in the national tour of They're Playing Our Song.A few months ago she played Rose in a production of Gypsy

Gee, why can't The Sisters stop all this feuding and work TOGETHER? Mama Judy once said she wanted to do a musical version of "Baby Jane" -- now tell me, what other role could Liza, at this freak-show stage of her career, play more convincingly than Baby Jane Hudson? Lorna could play Blanche. Yeah, I know, it's a tedious role, but throw her a big solo as she drags her ass down the stairs -- let her show that, yes, she has -- and has always had -- a better voice than Liza.

Do we all know the story about when Judy went to see Lorna in her high school musical? This was, of course, AFTER sister Liza had already won the Tony for Flora. But Lorna was so wonderful in her show that, after her first number as the audience applauded wildly, Judy turned to her companion and said, "F*CK Liza. THIS one's gonna pay my rent."

I guess the discussion may well be about why Liza made it and Lorna didn't...

Lorna was on the Jerry Lewis Telethon this past Sept she sang
"Smile" she did a really great job.

I love Lorna more simply because of Grease 2. Any movie that can make a song about bowling into the best song in the score is fine with me.

Lorna was the ONLY good part of that stupid movie! I've ALWAYS been more a fan of Lorna than Liza's. The only reason Liza is bigger is because she's CRAZIER and when you're crazy and have a kooky personality it makes you more interesting to watch. Liza is just a famous personality who throws in a few songs because she can't very well just stand there (and is possibly under the very false assumption that she CAN sing)... Lorna is the *talent*. Don't get me wrong, Liza has ALL kinds of presence and IS fun to watch, but biatch is insane (i'm not prejudice... crazy people are my faves) and CAN'T sing.

I, too, grew up on and loved "Grease! 2", and Lorna's performance as Paulette.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of Lorna's LIVE performance ability. She was a dreadful Adelaide on tour - no stage presence and lacking in the vocal department. Big disappointment. HOWEVER, this *is* the only impression I have of her stage work and would be interested in giving her another shot.

Liza, on the other hand, has always been a joy to watch on stage or screen. Her voice (at least the way it used to be) reminded me a lot of her mother: very raw and very emotional.

=== And what does "star quality" mean? That names a phenomenon without defining it. Mystery of the Ages... I've seen Liza on stage eight or nine times over the last 31 years. I can't imagine showing up for Lorna that often. So I agree, there is an enormous "You Gotta Watch Her" factor with Liza, whereas with Lorna -- well, there's just NOT. Liza is perhaps the ultimate of the "She's a Star because she's a Star" breed. What else could Liza be but a star? No one (no one) has ever had her feverish, near-psychotic onstage exhibitionism and desparate need to be adored. Never a particularly good voice, though her style was incredibly compelling. God knows, no looks. As an actress, she was never able to conform to any characterization beyond her own personality. But to contradict Judy, "F*CK Lorna. Liza paid the rent."
