Liza Minnelli

Posted: 4/4/05 at 3:16pmI never saw Glenn Close in the role other than on the ALW birthday celebration at Royal Albet Hall. She seemed to do a great job vocally and her acting seemed dead on for the2 songs she performed. I saw Sunset Blvd in the West End and it starred Petula Clark. She was fantastic, although I really have nothing to compare her to. I would love to see Liza as Norma.

Liza's never pimped a movie and never had a bad reputation for cancelling anything prior to the whole V/V blowup. I really don't want to see her in something as campy as Sunset though.
She'll also be at Cape Cod Melody Tent either the night before or the night after playing South Shore.
ShbrtAlley44 were do you go to acting school? You're going to give us a complete report after class on Thursday right?

WishIhadatony...you write really long post!!!!
As for this winning an oscar for Liza Minnelli, well I bet that it would win won for Glenn Close too......
Also, didn't ALW say that he didn't think that anyone could top Glenn's performance, which leads me to think that he would want her for the part, so I would think that if he wants her for the part and she wants the part, then it's hers....
BTW, Why is no one mentioning Faye Dunaway?????????????????

Posted: 4/6/05 at 9:22amWell, I saw Glenn and Betty. I'm a HUGE fan of Betty. Initially, I was disappointed with Glenn. Then when I saw Betty, I was blown away with how the songs were performed, but felt like the show was dragging INCREDIBLY. It wasn't until I saw Glenn perform the songs at the ALW 50th that I realized how important Glenn's acting was to pulling this "DOG" of a show forward. She really had the ability to make the source material better than it had the right to be. I'm a real fan of having a leading actress in a musical who is a strong singer, but for that role, I think the acting is more important and Glenn was able to pull the role off better than Betty.

After the LA Sunset/Faye Dunaway debacle, there is no way she will be considered for the movie.
As for Liza, she peaked with Cabaret and it has been a sad steady decline since then. I find her incredibly untalented and am amazed she has a following.

Unfortunately, I am very familiar with her work. Saw The Rink, Lucky Lady, New York New York, Arthur among others. I was also at numerous charity concerts where she has done a song or two. I have heard her numerous concert recordings (not bought thankfully) and am just appalled that this women still works in the business.
