Ok. I have thought about this. Who wants to save the show?

Let's save the Normal Heart!

This probably won't do a damn thing, but....
*raises hand... VERY high*
I think Mayor Koch needs to donate all his money.
Because that will happen.
This is awful
If ex Mayor Koch did he would look like a hero.

I wish this would work but sadly, we all know it won't. You guys, I am so upset about this! I had my heart set on seeing it again on the 17th (and front row, no less!). *very sad sigh*
Stop, you're making me cry again. ![]()
I'll be a Ned Weeks and scream at the top of my lungs, in rage again this glorious production's closing.
I must publically say that I'm proud of my fellow Esparza Heads. This is EXACTLY what the Normal Heart is about. I've lived it with Larry Kramer and all the other New York queers my age. First you cry, then you get mad, then you MOBILIZE. Make calls to the Public Theater, go down and bang your fist on someones desk, don't go down without a fight. Make Raul proud.
Hey, this can be our field trip! It's MUCH more worthwhile than just going and sitting through a play.
Post here if you love the Normal Heart!
Scream like Ned Weeks.
SCREAM!
'I'm mad as HELL, Mr. ______________ (manager of the Public Theater), and i'm not gonna take it anymore!!'
I'm looking for a line from the play that we could use in our efforts.... I'll get back to you.
haha, and all five feet of me is really gonna scare the crap of of the people down at the Public. REALLY gonna freak 'em out.

I wish we could save it!! I'll probably be down near the public theater later today, and tomorrow.. cause I'll be in that area.
So if anyone thinks of anything.. ;0)
I really wish they'd tell us the REAL reason for it's closing.

FYI folks --
The Public was not the producer of Normal Heart, they merely hosted it and had nothing to do with its closing. The Worth Street Theatre (artistic director Jeff Cohen) was the producer.
Please do not kill the folks at the Public. We had NOTHING to do with Normal Heart closing. Why would we want to put ourselves out of work?? As the house manager I had tell my house staff yesterday that we could potential be unemployed for two months. We were just as shocked and disappointed as anyone else and wish that this could have worked out differently. I'm not quite sure if there is anything we can do to save the show. At this point, the people in charge at Worth Street have made the decisions they needed to make and a crew has begun the strike process. If anyone feels writing letters and/or protesting would/could help in any way let me know what you come up with and I would consider contributing to the cause.
I just want to say that when I was at the Public Theater in May to see The Normal Heart, I noticed that the ushers and staff there were WONDERFUL. You guys are some of the best theater staff I've ever encountered -- you were cordial, patient, friendly, and treated me as a true patron, ie. human being (unlike the rush-rush cattle treatment I got in _some_ Broadway houses). Please send your staff my thanks and appreciation.
Thank you. It means a lot when people give us compliments for the work we do. Many of us are there because we truly love theater and love making someone else's theatergoing experience an enjoyable one. I will post this in our locker room so everyone can read. Thank you again.
As MargoChanning and Starusher have pointed out, it's best to point your feelings to the right people :) The Worth Street Theatre and the producer Jeff Cohen need to know how you all feel. My apologies to the Public ( who i can NEVER thank enough for 'Take Me Out', by the way!)
Appologies from me, as well.
Ok, but now... shame on you, Worth Street Theatre Company!

Yes! The staff at the public are always amazing and SO helpful when I have my normal 876 questions. I would never take it out on them.
Only the people that actually pulled the plug so quickly.. Though I'm sure that no one involved really wanted to end it so quickly.
Well i want to thank the people at Worth for bringing the show to the Public Theater.
Oh and Star Usher thank you for making my trip to the Normal Heart a memorable one.
I wish i could do more. I have been going to the theater for over thirty years and no play has ever moved me the way The Normal Heart has.
Thank you for bringing a brilliant play to the theater.

And how many of you that are screaming and ranting about it's closing actually PAID FULL PRICE EACH TIME YOU SAW IT? Hmmm...maybe if you donated YOUR money it would still be running.
Oh, relax. A comment like that is like saying that we should all pay full price for theatre tickets so that we aren't hurting the show, and so that it can keep running. If we all did that, sure, shows would run for longer, but we'd all be pretty damn broke. And, please, seeing as this was such a surprise to everyone, it's not like we could've known beforehand that ticket sales were suffering; it's not like we could've said "well hey. The show is suffering, so let's go and pay full price!"
And, for the record, I only saw it once. I had a discount, but it was only ten dollars shy of full price.... and I'm a poor college student. Perhaps I should've realize that I couldn't afford a full price ticket and not seen the play at all. Now *there* is a lack of support.
I'm sorry... rant done. I'm just really upset by this whole thing.
My point was that Corine was calling for Kotch to save the day and save face. And StarUsher's point that just because a theatre is FULL doesn't mean it's making any money! Wasn't TABOO "sold out" every performance, according to certain people here.
