Chitty,
I'm not a memeber of LOcal One but a member of IATSE in Cleveland. My local also doesn't have charity clauses in their contracts. However, we do have agreements with many charities to do work and reduced or no rate. If we had special clauses in our contracts with theatres, we the stagehands would require the services of those charities because no stagehand would get paid because every "shmoe" would say, "we're charity ABC, you're gonna work for free because we are a charity". I currently tour with a Broadway show, would you care to visit us and see how many IATSE CREW MEMBERS participate in BC/EFA?? I'd be more than happy to introduce you to the members that you "claim" don't care like Equity does. Do stagehands make extra money when Equity delivers post show speeches?? NOPE So, i'm sorry that calling someone stupid or ignorant, I know the difference between the two, is causing you such grief. We are just here to help people understand what the situation is that is taking place. Some people are so closed minded that they won't even try to UNDERSTAND, not agree with, just understand the situation. WHen closed minded people tell me that stagehands are millionares, and they have no proof but what a newspaper says, and they fight and fight and fight that it's the truth, I'm sorry i can't call that ignorance.
"Man..just reading these posts by roadguy and JustAGuy are enough to make anyone support the producers. Notice how when you are fighting a losing battle (as they are), you have to resort to name calling.
Interesting that none of them have even bothered to address that fact about WHY their union does not have the same charity clause in their contracts as does Equity. Simple...Equity cares about the community. Local 1 couldn't give a ****. "
