From Playbill.com:
"Record producer Tommy Krasker, of PS Classics, is in a London recording studio March 6-7 with the new London cast of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park With George.
What they're putting together is expected to be the most complete recording yet of the 1984 score of the Pulitzer Prize winning musical about art, artists and artistic legacies. The new cast album is expected to be released in the U.S. in late May.
PS Classics co-founder Krasker told Playbill.com, via e-mail from London, that the plan is for "a very full recording."
Krasker said, 'I timed all the musical passages, as well as several key moments of underscored dialogue that I very much wanted to include, and it clocked in at about 87 minutes. I thought about trimming it down to 79 minutes to fit on one CD, but then I thought, why? The production is extraordinary, and the performances are rich and powerful and nuanced. I thought, let's record everything we want to. If we end up making trims in post-production, it might come down to one CD, but I'm certainly not opposed to going to two CDs either.'
Krasker wanted to set the record clear about reports that cuts were made in Act Two in the current West End-bound production. The news is misleading, he said.
'Some of the dialogue in the 'Chromolume' scene was inverted, with the authors' full permission, but there wasn't one musical cut made in this production," Krasker said.
PS Classics is aiming for a late May release in the United States, and will probably make it available shortly before then in the UK, in order to coincide with the show's mid-May transfer to the West End."

Posted: 3/6/06 at 6:11pmGood. I was debating whether or not to buy the Original one, but I'll wait for this one. I enjoy "new" sounding recordings.

Interesting article on the recording of the CD, including how best to record someone who has never performed the role on stage, and how differences between UK and US recording contracts make things slightly easier...
