I am on Amazon now and I am about to purchase the Michale Ball recording of Sweeney Todd. But, I want to know what people think of it. Please let me know if it is worth the purchase...it is kind of pricey!
Thanks in advance!

The show was a masterpiece of musical theatre, I would say yes.
It's a highlights recording focused mostly on Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett so some important songs are missing like "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and there's no sign of Pirelli at all on the recording.
That aside I still think it's a great recording and it preserves Michael and Imelda's amazing performances.
Still sad that they weren't allowed to do a DVD release like they had planned though.

The production recently won OLIVIER honors for Best Musical Revival and Best Acting Honors in Musical Theatre for Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.
Assuming you already have the indispensable 1979 original cast recording. the Michael Ball is a good single disc highlights version. Beware there is not much in the booklet/insert at all.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Poor Thing is dearly missed.
