Well, I have very little experience with Chinese opera, so I have no frame of reference. I found it slow going until I "got" the rhythm of it, and then I enjoyed it. But I haven't sought out any more Chinese opera since.
wasn't henry iv at lincoln center pretty long? Besides that i would also have to say NN.
and of course there was THE VIOLET HOUR ...

Henry IV was heavily cut and was only a little over three hours (the two plays together uncut would have been six).

"The Fantastiks was not a revue, it was an off-Broadway musical."
Sorry, I got this confused with "I love you, you're perfect, now change." FANTASTICKS was the longest off B'way musical, somewhere near 17, 150 performances.
Thanks everybody who's posted!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Angels in America - which is the same as Nick Nic...
Matinee/Evening, etc.
I beleive that the original Les Mis at the Barbican was around 4 and a half hours when it was first performed. Although I would have loved to have seen it, I think that the show benefits from whatever cuts they made.
His Dark Materials at the National Theatre in London is much the same as the other long plays mentioned - it's in two parts of around 3 hours each. I'm doing the matinee/evening marathon in March . . .

as far as i can remember...Dracula was the longest thing i ever sat through.
Fortunately, the "freeway" in WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND was working the night I saw it. The show is actually very short. Only 2 hours 10 minutes including the intermission. WHen did you see the show? SO many people have said it wasnt working when they saw it. Was it that big a problem? hmm
Well we all know the longest play now, but other contenders for the throne would be the ten hour Tantalus and the three part Coast Of Utopia (9 hours total, could be viewed in one day, starting at 11am). There's also Cloudstreet which clocks in at just over 5 hours.

Someone did.
The current off-broadway revival of David Rabe's "HurlyBurly" clocks in at just over three hours...It is still previews, however.
(and yes, I thought it felt like three hours)

Me too, Razz. What did you think?
Gak. Never mind, both of the shows I posted about were previously mentioned. That'll teach me.
The longest thing I ever sat through was a horrid production of Marat/Sade. 7 hours at The Cider House Rules was NOTHIN' compared to that.
