They have AR Rahman of Bombay Dreams along with a Finnish group called Vartinnen writing the music

This strikes me as a poor choice for a musical.
I'd say maybe an opera, but the other 'Ring' got there first.
This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see starring the Ice Capades and done in ahuge arena.
Not everything has to be a musical.

That is going to be terrible!! If anything they should make a Harry Potter musical!

I couldn't agree more- both the books and the movie kinda dragged. Maybe it will be better as a musical though
Hi,
It's so weird when I first heard about this project. LOTR musical? What are they gonna do on stage? 'I am gonna kill you~' and then 'Ohohohoh, I am so scared~'! What a stupid idea! LOTR is a fighting movie and do not expect to put music in it, hey come on, it just do not fit! They say it will be the most expensive set in the world !!!! I just can't wait to see how it fails! Yes! I do not like the movie as well~ I think it stinks (do not send hate mails pls)!!!!!

"I just can't wait to see how it fails!"
Well isn't that a nice thought.
Although some of you may think the movies are boring they do happen to be one of the most succussful film series of all time (so far). Plus the movie and the books have a huge following so there is somewhat of a built in audience.
IMHO I don't think it's a great idea. The story is just to massive to be fit into a musical. But hey...they did it with Les Miserables.
LOTR musical?
Yeahh....yippee.
Just what we need. Maybe it can play the same place when Fame closes.
They are TRYING to make a musical out of this. But in musicals unlike SciFi/Fantasy where "there is no try, do or do not" Trying only gets you to maybe a working script. Then u hafta find investors & cast.... lotsa places to stop off @.
Hi,
yeah. The most impossible always turns up to be the most successful, e.g. POTO, Cats, Les Mis and Lion King. But they just don't want the LOTR heat stop! I agree that LOTR is one of the most successful movie series, but.... I just hate it! The book too! Imagine they make a Harry Potter movie! But I got news that there will be a Harry Potter ballet show and is sponsered by JK Rowling. How RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!! HOW MY GOD!!!!! LOTR and HP!!!!

Michael Crawford as Gandalf, Linda Hunt is Gollum!
Michael Crawford as Gundalf? I think Ian canstill be the on stage Gundalf, he is also a on-stage actor.I willwant Maria Friedman as that Queen of the elves. because I hate maria and I think she will make the musical worse. And i think actually Matthew Morrison of HAIRSPRAY can play Orlando Bloom's role. I think he will be fantastic in the role. I think Sandra Joseph looks quite alike Liv Tyler.

ruthifan I love reading your posts, your singular style of twisted syntax is not unlike Yoda, "Like Ruthie I do, powerful singer she is"...

I don't know how I feel about a potential musical of this. But I am sure it could be an awesome success for the right choreographer. I can actually picture a large stage and magnificent dancers. I also know that dancing does not a musical make. Just rambling.
