Lotteries- Spelling Bee, DRS, and Hairspray#0
Posted: 7/30/05 at 10:29pmHi! My name is Willl and I love Broadway! I've read a lot here before I joined, and I love reading all of the interesting opinions. I am going a two-day trip to NY this August and I wanted to try lotteries for Spelling bee, Hairspray and DRS. Which has the best probobilty of winning? Thanks, hope to see you more around!

Posted: 7/30/05 at 11:04pmI would be more specific... it really depends on teh day you go, and if you would choose matinee or evening show.

Posted: 7/30/05 at 11:06pmI've nevr done it, but the word on the board is Spelling Bee can be quite difficult to win because the large crowds of people who lost the wicked lottery often flock there afterwards...

Oh wow, I didn't even think about that. You may just be better off doing TKTS. I sat next to a girl in Hairspray in the 5th row at a Saturday 8:00 show and she got her ticket from TKTS.

Posted: 7/30/05 at 11:12pmI did both the Spelling Bee and DRS lotteries... and each time there were a lot of people. Definitely more for Spelling Bee than DRS, because Wicked is right next to it... Spelling Bee's lottery is after Wicked, so people seem to go to Wicked first, and if they lose go directly to Spelling Bee and try to win tickets.

I went to DRS on a Tuesday and it really wasn't too bad, but I'm sure weekends are much worse. I'd say there were maybe 30-40 people. Less than I expected.
Spelling Bee is definitely worse because of the Wicked lottery as people have said. It was extremely frustrating because a lot of people the day I went (Wednesday mat AND evening) would come by and go, "Oh, is this a musical too?" and then end up winning, which can be discouraging if it's something you really want to see.
But yeah, look at TKTS... it's a beautiful thing. Both Hairspray and DRS were there when I went.
