I know this has probably been answered already but I couldn't find it. I just saw the Rent movie & I was told Love Heals was the credits song. When I just saw it, it wasn't. What happened?
I to was told that it was a credit song, that's probably te only thing i was disappointed with.Lol.
i hope it'll be on the DVD as a "cut scene" or something. Idk, a girl can dream.

Nothing was filmed for it.
The general assumption is that the song was too upbeat and things for the way the film ended; that it would throw the dynamic on which the film leaves the audience.
Emcee is right, we fans get a bit carried away and assume to much, but hopfully we'll hear it some way on the DVD.
Can we start a write in for things we want on the DVD?
--Love Heals
-- Halloween and Goodbye Love cut back into the movie
--How about a bonus of stage footage of the original cast (assuming it exists?) or some stuff from Tick Tick Boom or other unknown Larson stuff....
I doubt there will be anything on T.T.B, but maybe a little bio. on Jonathen done by his family. scene cuts and so on..

Since the first person on here saw a screening, it has been mentioned that love heals was not the credit song and discused numerous times that they felt it was too upbeat as mentioned above.
I don't get what people want done with Love Heals. Nothing was filmed.
There's supposed to be a fairly long documentary, including things from the stage show. The deleted scenes will be on it. As of now, as just that. Scenes.

Whoa there wait, hold on. I havent seen the movie yet (seeing it Friday.... I know, I know, this is what happens when you work 12 hour days)... they cut Halloween and Goodbye Love? Are you KIDDING me?
I know, this is probably been talked to death but I didnt want to read a lot about the movie in the process and get preconceived notions and whatnot..... but really. They cut it, huh?
Anything else I should know about in advance? Because that pisses this renthead off. And yes, Im well aware that I just called myself a renthead for the first time in a VERY long time lol
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
They cut all of Halloween and the SECOND HALF of Goodbye Love. It ends when they all say "I can't believe this is goodbye."
Don't be pissed! It's not that big of a deal, IMO.
Here:
The notion of things falling apart brings me to the Goodbye Love issue. The way in which I missed both Halloween and the end of Goodbye Love was musically. I simply missed hearing the music because I think they're both really strong pieces of music. But as I had been told and as I'd suspected to be truth, the Goodbye Love cut doesn't leave anything unexplained. The funeral scene in the movie is so, so much more powerful and jarring than it is on stage. You can see Mimi and Benny sitting together, and then Roger make eye contact with her. He's crying. You see Maureen and Joanne exchange glances, but sitting separately. They're both crying. And these characters are not only crying because they've lost Angel, but they're crying because right then and there, they realize that they're losing each other, too. Mark and Roger sit in the same row, but there's space between them. Roger's already distanced himself from everyone, even more than he had before. Right there in front of your eyes, in one scene, you see -- by nothing more than eye contact and tears -- these relationships absolutely fall apart. You don't need it to be told to you.
is there some place to send what we want on the dvd in? lol there so should be like a request hot line!!
I had assumed that they had included Love Heals because they wanted that coveted "new song" award at the Oscars (or the Grammys....or whatever award show it is...there are way too many....as long as I have my Tonys, who needs the others? ^^
I, too, assumed that the song would be on the end credits. In fact, I made my friend sit with me through the end because she hadn't heard the song yet. Actually, she hadn't even known there WAS a "new song" (not really NEW, but you know...) until I said something.
I was sad that it didn't play because it was so pretty, but sitting around was worth it because I absolutely ADORED how they thanked Jonathan Larson at the end. That was worth everything. It's so tragic that he died.....he could have gone on to do so many great things in the world.....and now he'll never have the chance.
It makes sense what earlier posters have said about the song being too 'upbeat' at the end, but can that truly be the sole reason? Especially since it could be argued that the end brims with hope and promise?
If the song wasn't included in the movie at all, but is on the movie soundtrack and the DVD, can it still win for best song? I would rather have "Rent" win over "The Producers" any day, if only because "Rent" hits me on a deeper scale and has such an emotional impact. "The Producers"........well, it isn't my favorite musical in the world, though it is enjoyable. If "Rent" can't get the nom, I WOULD like to see another musical take home the prize!!
Anyway.....sorry for imposing myself on y'all once more tonight. I'll go back into my lurkdom now and trouble you no more. Honest!
I don't believe Love Heals is eligible for the Oscars as it's not really a new song and wasn't written for the film.
