From The Phantom OTO Facebook page:

"Hugh Jackman or Gerard Butler as #Phantom?

Did you know the former was considered for the role in a proposed sequel to #PhantomOfTheOpera movie but was busy with X-Men Movies?"

So glad it never happened.

The bullet being the material more than the player IMHO. I think Hugh Jackman would have excelled as the Phantom. From what I've read, he was reportedly offered the Phantom role in the POTO film but couldn't accept because of his involvement with THE BOY FROM OZ. Too bad he couldn't do both. I think the film would have fared much better in that case.

I don't think even Hugh could save Love Never Dies.

It just seems weird that they would pick this specific story.
