Just wanted to post a mini-review of this excellent production. Randal Myler, who conceived the show, is directing the production with music direction by Sam Andrew, an original member of Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis' first band). One of the two singer/actresses alternating in the role of Janis is Katrina Chester who did the role in the Off-Broadway mounting. Everything about this show is first-rate, right down to the period costumes designed by Lorraine Venburg. Ms. Chester is nothing short of astounding, capturing the essence of Joplin without doing a full-out imitation of her. Morgan Hallett plays the "private" Janis, getting most of the show's dialogue. Part rock concert, part theatre piece, this show is a great eventing at the theatre. If you are within 200 miles of Louisville, this show is worth the trip!

I live in Louisville and I'm DYING to see this show. I really hope I have time to see it before it closes on Saturday.
Just to promote Actors even more, if you live within 200 miles of Louisville, you should see ANY show at Actors. They always do top notch shows (I highly reccomend the annual Dracula production that plays through the month of October, I saw it last year for the first time and it was the scariest bit of theatre I've ever experienced. Granted, it's in a very intimate arena style theatre and I was front row right next to all of Dracula's entrances. My friend and I were bled on, it was beautiful.)
