"that song is from "south pacific". it was originally written for the stage version but it was dropped because the song was deemed to "controversial". they included it in the 1958 movie version though."
Ah. Yeah, "South Pacific" has some good songs, most especially "Some Enchanted Evening." And I like "The Sound Of Music" too.
And I can't believe I forgot "Mamma Mia." Talk about nauseating...

"Think twice before you poo-poo it." -You'll See, Rent
Are we five or something?
yea mister hot shot benny is like the last person who would say 'think twice before you poo-poo it'
'Why oh why oh why oh
Why did I ever leave Ohio'
And pretty much everything else from that show.
Rose McShane says: "All right, I'll concede that Hammerstein isn't wholly awful. But I still think the majority of his lyrics are nauseating. Incidentally, PalJoey, what show is that song from?"
I respectfully submit, Rose, that if you don't KNOW what show "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" is from, your clearly don't know the majority of his lyrics. Therefore, you forfeit the right to comment on the "majority of his lyrics" being "nauseating."
You should educate yourself before you make such uninformed pronouncements.
Here. Start with Oscar's "The Folks Who Live on the Hill":
====
Some day we'll build a home on a hilltop high,
You and I,
Shiny and new,
A cottage that two can fill.
And we'll be pleased to be called
"The folks who live on the hill."
Some day we may be adding a thing or two,
A wing or two,
We will make changes
As any family will,
But we will always be called
"The folks who live on the hill."
Our verandah will command a view of meadows green,
The sort of view that seems to want to be seen.
And when the kids grow up and leave us,
We'll sit and look at that same old view,
Just we two,
"Darby and Joan"
Who used to be "Jack and Jill,"
The folks who like to be called
What they have always been called
"The folks who live on the hill."
