Posted: 3/24/05 at 3:39pmI don't think it's out on DVD yet. Can't wait though. I have it on video (from tv) and it is one of my favorite train wreck movies.

Posted: 3/24/05 at 3:43pmI was just listening to clips from the soundtrack online, and it brought back sooo many memories about how Lucy butchered that role... it made me want to watch it again, just to get a good laugh. The film had such potenetial... the rest of the cast was great (Bea Arthur, Robert Preston, Jane Connell, etc).

I may be completely off my rocker in saying this, but it seems like I heard/read that that there is some problem that is keeping it from being released on DVD -- I don't know if this has anything to do with the proposed remake, or Jerry Herman's personal dislike of the movie or a studio licensing problem, but for whatever reason, the word I think I heard was "Don't be looking for this on DVD anytime remotely soon."
Shame cuz it is a terribly guilty pleasure! Right up there with Valley of the Dolls and Mommie Dearest!

Posted: 3/24/05 at 5:37pmI know that Jerry Herman was very discouraged by both MAME ansd HELLO DOLLY's treatment in the movies. Streisand was way too young, and Lucille Ball was way too old and could not sing. He has said that he really did not care for either film at all. DOLLY is out on DVD, I think. I don't think he has the power to keep it from being released. Also, he stands to make money on the DVD if and when it is released.
