Previews start in September in Bristol, and opens in London in December!

I am really excited for this one! I am told that Disney is "definitely" going to bring POPPINS to the U.S. in 2005. Someone said Eisner said that on CNN, or Fox?

disney doesnt own the rights. the family of the writer hated the movie, especially dick van dyke, and have not given permission to disney since.

disney's co-producing the show with cameron mackintosh as they own the rights to all of the songs from the movie while cameron owns the rights to the book.

well, someone better tell the family that all of the advertising and logo material says "disney and cameron mackintosh present."

disney does own the rights to the music. they do not own the rights to the story and any images. there was huge legal battle in the 70's cause disney wanted to use the mary poppins image for marketing and the family refused for reasons i sated earlier. disney is co producing the show but cannot use any of the images for any advertising or merchandise not directly related to the show and on any disney property. they also take a lesser cut of the overall profits as the story and character rights have been leased to cameron. all disney owns is the music. For several years I heard rumors that either Cyndi Lauper or Emma Thompson would be playing Mary. I think Either would be wonderful in her own right and they can both sing. Cyndi would be Quirky and Emma would be fantastic!

well, redhot, Emma is from Dayton, OH and only learned the accent from all the Julie Andrews movies... Cyndi would certainly bring a new and different twist to the character as we all remember her... Updated On: 2/27/04 at 12:20 PM

oh god, I can just see Emma licking that vodka out of that glass on Ellen...and I can imagine her looking in the mirror as Mary and saying "just as I suspected (holding tape measure) - Practically perfect in Every way!"
Cyndi on the other hand - wow - did any of you see that movie she did with Jeff Goldblum several years back, where she played a fake medium - she was so funny in it!

Cyndi can do anything... she is amazing... while i didn't see that movie "Vibes" (i was in a "i dislike Jeff Goldblum" phase) i do remember the fun song she did for it... "I've got a hole in my heart that goes all the way to China" ... i think i may have it on a 45... does anyone remember 45s??? i've got boxes of them...

where on earth do you store all those 45s? and I'm glad you remember the name of that film - lets rent it someday soon - its really cute.

(I wanna see how Broadway will do the scene where all the nannies get blown away in the wind...hell - they can't even seem to get a witch to fly in Wicked - how will they accomplish this?LOL!)

The only confirmed cast member(as far as I know) is Laura Michelle Kelly as Mary Poppins.
