Does anyone know about the musical Minnie's Boys? It tells the story of the Marx brothers but that is all i know! Anyway, i am doing a song for an audition from the show called "Mamma a Rainbow". However I need to know what the show is about, what character is singing the song, what part in the show, whats going on at that point, you know, all that good background information. Can Anyone help please?
Thanks a lot!!!!

The song is sung by Adolph - later to become "Harpo". It is Minnie's birthday, and they are very poor - the boys have not yet become sucessful as performers. Adolph is the shy, sensitive one - he hardly talks much - leading to his eventual silent persona as Harpo.
The opening lines of the published sheet music lyric is slightly diferent from the actual show lyric.
The opening line is "What do you give to the woman who has nothing", then Minnie sings, "Don't say 'nothing', I have you." Then Arthur once again sings "What do you give to the woman who has nothing." The lyric continues as written.

Thanks so much guys! Thats a great help! If anyone else has any other information, keep it coming! The more the better!
Thanks!
The show was changed radically during previews & Totie Fields had once been considered for Minnie. Lewis J Stadlen played Groucho. The rest of the cast basically vanished after Minne's Boys closed . Only Stadlen had a career afterward
