Oh my God, now I have seen everything. I just read this on the Yahoo news and am in disbelief. Here's the story (complete link below):
Riding on the success of its Reality Television Division, MTV is looking to take on the Great White Way with The Real World: The Musical. Real World: Los Angeles cast mates Jon Brennan (music) and Beth Stolarczyk (book and lyrics) teamed up to write the musical spoof based on the hit reality series. Stolarczyk will also use the tuner as a vehicle to showcase her own acting and vocal talents by playing herself. The show also plans to feature infamous cast members; Coral Smith (Back to New York), Montana McGlynn (Boston), and Puck Rainey (San Francisco), all playing themselves respectively. Currently, there are no plans to include other original cast members in the production.
On November 30, 2004, Brennan and Stolarczyk had the opportunity to showcase a portion of their work to a handful of MTV executives, in a workshop hosted by the Riverwood Playhouse. The performance featured several musical numbers from the show, including; the opening ensemble piece, "There's No Point in Being Polite, When Being Nasty's So Much Fun", Smith's show-stopping tap number, "Iām Just Here To Cuss Some B*tches Out", Stolarczyk's touching ballad, "It's So Lonely Being Lonely", and McGlynn's solo sets, "Red-headed Firebird" and "So I Gave the Kid Some Wine". Also performed were Rainey's solo, "Stink is a Five Letter Word" and his duet with San Francisco's Rachel (played by Faye Tristan) entitled, "I Will Put a Booger in Your Peanut Butter Jar". The complete workshop cast rounded out the afternoon with a rousing performance of the ACT II finale "R-E-A-L".
MTV has already begun searching for a Broadway home, with hopes of a spring 2006 opening.
