Whilst in New York, I decided to catch a performance of "MY MOTHER'S ITALIAN, MY FATHER'S JEWISH, AND I'M IN THERAPY!" a the Westside Theater. I'm not much into stand-up that focuses entirely on the comedian's family, but this was surprisingly entertaining (Perhaps because that is, in fact, my heritage. My grandmother/mother IS Italian while my grandfather IS Jewish...and I have gone to therapy from time to time in my life).
Has anyone else seen this? I'm shocked that he tours the show. New York seems to be the perfect place for this. Even he pointed this out at the end of the show, pointing out how difficult it would be to do this in Omaha.
And as a bonus, during that same thank-you-to-the-audience speech, he mentioned that Eddie "The Big Ragu" Mekka would be taking over for him for a bit while he tours...and that he was sitting in the audience. That's right. I've seen The Big Ragu in person. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah!

The title of this show just completely makes me want to gag. I'm Jewish, but I'm getting increasingly tired of this brand of humor. "Oh no! I'm part Jewish but part something else! Listen to my rant about my funny Jewish relatives! Oh, how hilarious my escapades can be!" The whole thing just seems so antiquated, and there have been plenty of other small shows on the Great White Way in recent years that keep this (in my opinion) unfunny topic alive.
But alas, we Jews will always keep paying to hear more Jewish humor. Hoorah.
I'm always getting comp offers to this show, but I can't bear to sit through a show with this title.
These shows that have "built-in audiences" are getting so tired.

I completely agree. There are definitely so much stand-up that revolves around "I'm (ethnicity) and therefore, I must act in this fashion!" or "My immigrant mother has a funny voice!" but I think this guy pulled it off really well. Maybe it was just contagious laughter because I'm not sure I would have found it as funny if it was just me alone in the room.
