Yesterday's episode of Mad Men featured a tour de force performance by Kiernan Shipka as Sally Draper.
In a show that has so many wonderful performers, it's quite a feat for a child actor to stand out. Throughout the series, the Sally character has been interesting. But last night when Sally's plot line with Grandpa Gene was showcased, this girl knocked it out of the park.
I have revised my fantasy casting for Urinetown: The Movie. Kiernan Shipka IS Little Sally.

I was very surprised at her performance as well; she's really a talented little actress! I can see great things happening in Sally's future (as long as she doesn't set herself aflame like the monk lol!)
I just said the same thing to my wife. I wonder if they knew she was this god two and a half years ago when they cast her.

I watch and enjoy MAD MEN but the child's poorly written tirade was not in the least bit credible. When all is said and done, MAD MEN, for all its class and sophistication, is typical television: no dramatic stakes, plot lines that go nowhere, characters that never develop. Poor man's theater.

No dramatic stakes? No character development? lol I love how you calim to enjoy it but seem to loathe it or at least have some bone to pick with it. Oh well--I ove theatre but I admit the one thing I don't get from theatre that Mad Men delivers in spades is the joy of truly well done serial storytelling--a deep connectiona dn understand, and even surrpise with these characters.
and yes she was very good and had some spot on writing.

I think there is extensive character development on the show! They are some of the most complex characters on TV. I love this show and have from day one!
All the Enchanted Hunter's jibes about television refer mainly to television before the HBO revolution's impact hit mainstream TV. Consider "House, M.D." and "Lost," two modern "network shows" as examples of shows with plot stakes, major character development, and solid serial storytelling too.
It's also nice to see Robert Morse, veteran Broadway performer, on Mad Men.
I think of his character as how J. Pierrepont Finch from How to Succeed in Business.... might have ended up like.
My son, who has no clue who Robert Morse is, loves Mad Men and refers to Morse as "The Colonel" because he reminds him of Colonel Sanders.
