Boston Globe 8/7/08
In it's latest push for survival, the Citi Performing Arts Center ( formerly Wang Center) has signed a deal with MSG Entertainment Group.
Audiences can expect to see more rock concerts, the arrival of Cirque du Soleil's " Wintuk" and return runs of the "Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
The two entities signed a 10 year deal yesterday. For productions and concerts staged at the Wang Theatre, which Citi Center manages.
I just wanted to spread my love to the New Yorkers. Who signed this deal with the Citi Center. Gosh knows we need some loving up this way. And it would be sad to see this theatre dark.
Thanks Again Joe

They also need do to something about the WILBUR theater (whoever bought that theater!) and the SHUBERT theater? How about the re-opening of PARAMOUNT Theater at Downtown crossing?
Gosh! Boston used to have more than 25 Theaters during the Boston Golden Age of Broadway Try-outs (as seen in CURTAINS the musical) Right now we only have the Wang, Colonial, Opera House, BU Theater, Emerson-Majestic Theater...god, what happened to the other 20 theaters or so??? ( I think some of them have been transformed into condos, cinema houses)
Sadly, Bostonians does not know HOW TO PRESERVE Theater's history despite the fact that we preserved all the colonial houses & buildings around here for future generations!

Jay, I've only heard about the Paramount. And that is going to be renovated by Emerson College. Which will include two new performance spaces. The Shubert, which I had seen plenty of try-outs. From Dreamgirls to Pacific Overtures, is now empty. It was suppose to be home to the Boston Opera Company. And I think that has fallen apart. So there are plenty of options for investors here. Just hoping the wrecking ball is not in the near future. For anymore of these beloved theatres.

Posted: 8/7/08 at 11:28amThe Shubert is operated under the Citi Performing Arts Center umbrella (which also operates the Wang), so it is pretty safe from the wrecking ball. The Wilbur is also protected as a landmark/historical building.

Posted: 8/7/08 at 11:55amI saw Rent at the Shubert a couple of years ago, I remember. A much better space for it than the too big Wang Center (no matter what it gets renamed it will always be the Wang to me), though the Wang is a beautiful theater. Glad to see it will be more active, though. And the Wilbur...I wish some resident local Boston theater company could buy it and produce lots of shows there as it such a waste of a decent space with so much history.
