He had the powerful voice with an enormous range, boatloads of charisma and liked to act and occasionally dress in drag. The only issue would have been getting past an Evita with lots of chest hair and a mustache. But I bet he could have killed "Buenos Aires", "I'd be surprisingly good for you", "Rainbow high" and "Don't cry for me Argentina".

Posted: 5/12/14 at 12:07amI don't get why several here have suggested they could see a male playing Mame or Mama Rose. Why? One may as well go through the list and suggest the same : Dolly, Annie Oakley or Annie (orphan), or Ado Annie. In any case its equally ridiculous and becomes a drag show. As someone said earlier Cabaret's emcee could be either sex, just as Leading Player in Pippin went from Ben Vereen to Patina without a problem. But Evita please. Gender blind and color blind are worlds apart and are not equivocal.

But seriously, I'm surprised to hear that things like this actually happen in real life. I'd see it all for the lulz.
