Mamma Mia!

Last night I saw Mamma Mia! at the Jackie Gleason theatre. I know some people are not fond of it but I really enjoyed it. The guys voices weren't great but Carrie Manolakos (Sophie) Laurie Wells (Donna) were outstanding! Their voices were so loud *in a good way* and so energetic. Amazing! The theatre is huge and we were 2nd row mezzanine. The sound system wasn't great but their voices really made up for that (especially Sophie and Donna.)

The understudies were:
1. Ali- usually played by Tiffani Barbour but was played by Mackenzie Thomas.
2. Father Alexandrious- usually played by Brad Wills but was played by Michael Gerhart
3. Bill Austin- usually played by Milo Shandel was played by Brad Willis.

The only one that I could sort of tell that was an understudy was Brad Willis. Don't get me wrong, he was excellent but I could see he wasn't the 'real thing'- which is totally understandable. I mean, he does have a huge part after-all.

My parents and aunt went with me since they were down here for my college graduation and they went to see it also. I went to the stage door to meet to cast and my aunt thought she new someone from the show...she recognized her name from the playbill. Low and behold, it was her- Sara Braslow. My aunt was her kindergarden teahcer many years ago in New Jersey.

So, all in all, I really enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite show but it was entertaining. I loved the Abba music so maybe that helped me enjoy it more than other people who aren't really fond of it.

Sorry for the cr*ppy review- I've been really busy and I gotta leave. If you get a chance, go see it! Last performance is tomorrow (May 7th- at 8:00)
