Mamma Mia's tired in Chicago

The cast of Mamma Mia appeared to be very tired this evening in Chicago. The volume was so bad in the theatre that you could barely hear them singing at times, and the cast appeared to have zero energy. Also upset with the casting - didn't seem to fit the roles based on previous casts in NYC and Chicago. This was also the first time for me that the audience didn't stand up at the end and let loose with clapping and dancing.
No comparison to the dynamic show that the cast of All Shook Up performed earlier in the week!

Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:26amI thought the same thing. Also heard other people mentioning this! The last performance in Chicago is tomorrow, so they are probably just hoping to get through the end. Still disappointing.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:33amI may just be reading the wrong posts, but has anyone ever given the MAMMA MIA tour a good review? seriously it's hard to stomach the show on Broadway and that's with the Immortal Carolee! I can't even picture seeing it with a less amazing talent pool. Pitre was pretty damn good though.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 1:42amhaving spent my evening ushering at Dodger, I can attest that it's rather depressing spending xmas in a mostly-empty theatre complex. wish I had been assigned to Modern Orthodox, which was, not surprisingly, completely sold out tonight! Baruch Hashem!

Trust me, they aren't 'tired'... they were like that when I saw them in November.
I was throughly dissapointed with the cast. No support, no energy. None of the voices impressed me much. It was far below the standards that I'm used to from a touring company.
All over, I thought they were terrible. I was itching to get out of the theatre. I don't think they were just 'tired'
