My wife wanted to see Mamma Mia (must admit I don't have a burning desire to see it) when it comes to San Francisco in February, so I got tickets. Does anyone know about the tour? Good production? How are the actors?

Which tour?? Both have strng leads in my opinion... tour 2 is a bit scaled down to allow for shorter runs but nothing noticable unless you are inimately familiar with eth show.. as far as the show its self, some write off as fluff and meaningless and say that is not what theatre is about, but teh show is great fubn and always good for a laugh. You just can't walk in expectinga shakespearian tale.

The tour is scheduled here in San Francisco from February 24 until April 17, so I'm guessing it is not the scaled down version.

Then you will be getting Tour 1 starring Jeannine Morrick.. she was a Donna/Tanya understudy on broadway and took over as Tanya when Karen Mason left.. she will be a treat.

Ya. I think the only thing cut in tour 2 was the sunset and bridge.

Yes.. please do. the show is a lot of fun.. Even though the book is neither complex or deep, it does a good job of threading those songs together and part of the amusement is seeing how Catherine Johnson did it.

Thanks broadwayguy2. Not a bad season in San Francisco this year. Lion King comes in for a long run in January and Hairspray arrives in May. We even get The Exonerated this month with people like Robin Williams, Stockard Channing and Amanda Plummer. Last month Topdog/Underdog stopped here.

WOW! That IS a good season indeed.. be sure to check out Hairspray.. the show is so well put togther and Carly Jibson, by every account, is sublime in the starring role.

Hairspray is on the list for sure! We saw it in NYC in early September and loved it. Not a bad first 6 months coming in 2004. Mamma Mia in February, were coming to NYC in late March to see The Producers, Fiddler, Avenue Q (already have tickets to these) and 2 or 3 others to be named later. Then Hairspray is in May. Whew!

Ooooo! You have a great next few months planned out indeed!
if it's tour 1... see it for Jeanine Morrick...shed probably be the only reason to spend $ on tour 1

When i last saw tour 1 in SF they were AMAZING>>> i know the cast has switched for the most part but i have herd great things about new members. I would definitely go and give them a try.
I saw both of the last tours in SF and they both were amazing! Fun show...I was especially partial to Dee Hoty who played Donna in this last tour. She was great. Anyways, hope you enjoy the show!
The Mamma Mia tour all-around is fun, but like broadwayguy said, it's definatly not deep. It's a fluffy, easygoing, laugh-out-loud fun.

If in San Francisco you have to see A Little Night Music at the Post Street Theatre. The Chronicle gave it great reviews and I saw it last night and it is wonderful!!!!!!
