I saw Mandy in concert last Saturday and he was brilliant. He got a little testy with a waitress who was serving drinks to the front rows but after he recovered from that, he shined.
I've seen him several times before in concert and he seems to be getting rid of all the "odd" vocalizations he has done in the past. Anyway, he sang for 2 hours with just a piano and no break. I loved it.

Posted: 4/3/08 at 12:13pmHe asked her if she had drinks for everyone. He asked her if this was a ballgame? He asked her to leave and sat on a chair and proceeded to sit there till she was done handing out the drinks. She seemed unfazed. However a manager came out from the back of the theatre to hurry up her leaving.

How rude.I would have demanded my money back. She was only doing her job. I hate it when talent has to make staff feel bad in order for themselves to feel good, or important.
If I had been there, I would have yelled "STop being a diva!"

How gracefully handled it sounds. Reminds me of that story about the tantrum he threw during rehearsals of THE SECRET GARDEN, which resulted in one of the actresses telling him, "Mr. Patinkin, I am only PLAYING your maid."

Posted: 4/3/08 at 1:00pmActually, the situation was such that Patinkin had every right to be angry and he did apologize to the waitress. This was a theater (concert venue) and NOT a casino. The management decided to make a buck by serving drinks to the people in the front row which was distracting to the artist and to the other audience members. They did not inform the artist or his management team and did not take the usual casino style serving rules (which require that the waitress not take orders or serve during the songs, etc.).

Regardless, he should have been professional on stage, and he certainly shouldn't have embarrassed a waitress, it wasn't her decision.
How incredibly nasty. I'll never see anything with him in it again.

Posted: 4/3/08 at 2:43pmWell, I wasn't planning on going to see him on Broadway anyway. That hideous voice, I'd rather listen to a powerdrill.

I am a very big fan of Mr Patinkin, and have never found him to be anything but pleasant, professional and kind during his concerts and any time I've met him after. I think he genuinely loves performing, and his audiences always love him right back
I already have my ticket for this concert, and I couldn't be more excited
I think he's an awesomely talented singer, and am not sure you're all entirely fair to him on these boards
And yes, it's just my personal opinion -- before you all decide to join forces and tear my head off

Posted: 4/3/08 at 3:51pmHe did it to himself, that kind of behavior is unprofessional, and there is no two ways about it.
