I was just thinking about what the selection will be from MCP for their annual concert each winter for 2017. I know this would be very far fetched, as the Broadway production was an enormous flop, however I would absolutely love to see Doctor Zhivago for the next concert. Steven Pasquale would make a fantastic Yurii, bring Paul Nolan back for Pasha, and have Philip Quast as Komarovsky. Not sure who would play Lara or Tonia however.... It would be so wonderful to have had both of the great Lucy Simon's works presented two years in a row! However, it will be very curious to see if they will do what they did last year with Parade and have next year's concert announced in the Playbill. It will also be very interesting to see what they will pick, considering the options seem very limited, as both of the major Boubil and Schoenberg musicals would be off limits with Les Mis having just closed, and Miss Saigon already coming back next spring, and the Sondheim and R&H catalog typically being produced by the NY Philharmonic. Unless they stop producing these large concerts altogether, which would be quite unfortunate, considering the level of talent that is always involved. Just a thought.
