it's kind of weird because last summer there was a production of GYPSY in a small town near Houston starring Andrea McCardle. i've never been to Odessa, but it's odd two small towns would do the same show and import well-known theatre names for it.

andrea didnt even know her lines- she was so awful- from what i heard :) i didnt see it, but u know. i hear these things. i think daisy is a bigger star than andrea (she actually WON the Tony) and i think Maria is a much bigger star than daisy. so i think this one sounds more legit.

oh yeah, and gypsy is like the only show that every WANTS to do in terms of star talent. every woman wants that part- so its not hard to see why they'd go some to get it.

Daisy won the Tony, but Andrea has more stage/Broadway credits, recordings, television and concerts/benefit performances behind her. She was the original Annie - she's a much bigger name.

I read a review of Andrea in Gypsy that was not good, but praised her performance in it. The guy who played Herbie is a friend of mine.

one reason andrea, as you say, is a bigger name is that shes much much older than daisy. daisy is still practically a child herself (yes, i know she's like 25) but i think having won the Tony puts her into her own special category of fame above andrea. daisy seems much more likely to make a triumphant return to broadway.

also what a perfect way to cast louise- daisy, viewed as a young kid star now performing in a role that shifts from a child performer into womanhood. that's pretty good and marias just awesome anyway

I could name dozens of actors who have won Tonys over the past few decades who never made it back to Broadway, and indeed whose names you probably wouldn't know. Winning a Tony does not make you a "name." Andrea's body of work makes her more of a name. And at 25 she had more of a body of work behind her than Daisy does now. She originated a classic role that has influenced generations of little girls, and will continue to. ANNIE and SECRET GARDEN are in two different leagues. I have nothing against Daisy, I think she's wonderful - but she's not a bigger name than Andrea.

I agree with you Rath...did anyone else see Daisy on the first season of the "It Factor?" She could not get arrested...

Its completely relative I suppose. I was not alive for the original Annie, so I find Daisy to be a bigger name. I didnt know Anrea at all until a couple years ago- and as for Secret Garden vs. Annie, its true, there's no compare. But, Secret Garden is lovely and i dont think weve all seen the last of it. my personal opinion is that daisy is a better actress.

You're right. Daisy Eagan couldn't get arrested during the It Factor filming. She was too busy auditioning, going to school, doing benefits, concerts and recordings and booking a role in a world premiere play at La Jolla Playhouse for which she was nominated for a Garland Award. Besides haven't you figured out by now that "reality" TV is edited to look more dramatic?
What is your problem? Why do you have to write negative things about something you obviously don't know anything about? You sit here at your computer judging other people while they're out trying to just live their lives. Where do you get off?
I'm new to this message board and I'm really shocked at the cattiness and mean-spirited attacks. What have these people ever done to you? Updated On: 2/1/05 at 01:20 PM

BDWYboi please proceed directly to the haven'tgotaFingclue.com Boards, Andrea McArdle was the original Annie in ANNIE on Broadway, she's done film,tv,thousands of concerts, she is a much more bankable name than Daisy Egan. ANNIE was a megablockbuster and the role of Annie is iconic, ask several of the younger female actors now working on Broadway what show inspired them and they'll tell you ANNIE. Ms. Egan is a fine talent, but Ms. McArdle has been in the business for nearly 40 years.

And don't get me started on the fact that Maria Friedman is just about the greatest singing actor of her generation. I'd hunt down a ticket anywhere to see HER Mama Rose.

I just want to say, that I greatly admire Ms. Egan also, her Mary Lennox in The Secret Garden was a wonderful performance, I was just stating that in theatrical circles Andrea McArdle is a name that sells tickets, her run as Belle was very successful for Beauty and the Beast, the box office shot up nearly 40% during those two years, I was a part of the company at the time and can safely say she was an audience favorite.

Much good wishes to Ms.Friedman on her win, I'd love to go to London and see her performance.

Excuse me, Nonya, I was not passing judgement on Daisy Egan. I saw her in "The Secret Garden" and thought she was great (and in a lesser part in "The Dead" at Playwright Horizons). It was her decision, however, to go on a reality show and complain that she could not find an acting job (and many times not even an audition) and had to teach out of her apartment to make ends meet. I was quite frankly surprised she was finding it so difficult. So when I said she could not get arrested during that period, they may have edited it all they wanted, but they did not put words in her mouth either.
