Jacob Young (“JR Chandler” on ABC’s “All My Children”) will play his final performance as ‘Lumiere’ in Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Sunday, August 20th at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street). On Tuesday, August 22nd, Stuart Marland will begin performances as the Gallic candelabra.
Young began performances in the role on May 9th. The Emmy Award-winning actor is making his Broadway debut in the show. After a highly successful run, his originally scheduled limited 10-week engagement was extended through this Sunday, August 20th.
Marland began his professional career in 1980 as one of Disney's Kids of the Kingdom. His Broadway credits include General Lord Glossop and Mr. Utterson in Jekyll & Hyde and Ragueneau in Cyrano The Musical. He has appeared in the national touring companies of The Producers as Roger DeBris and Seussical as General Genghis Kahn Schmitz with Cathy Rigby, as well as Ragtime, The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Sarah Brightman, The Who's Tommy, A Chorus Line, Sophisticated Ladies and The King and I with Rudolf Nureyev.
Beginning September 19th, Donny Osmond will join the cast as Gaston for a limited nine-week engagement.
In 2006, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has marked several major milestones. On April 18th, the musical celebrated its 12th anniversary on Broadway. The production played its 5,000th performance on Tuesday, June 20th. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is currently the sixth-longest running musical in Broadway history. More than twenty million people have seen the show in over twenty productions worldwide. The original cast recording is currently available on Walt Disney Records.
The show, which features a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton, also currently stars Steve Blanchard as the Beast, Sarah Litzsinger as Belle, Grant Norman as Gaston, Jeanne Lehman as Mrs. Potts, Christopher Duva as Cogsworth, Jamie Ross as Maurice, Meredith Inglesby as Babette, Gina Ferrall as Madame de la Grande Bouche and Aldrin Gonzalez as Lefou. Trevor Braun and Alexander Scheitinger alternate the role of Chip.
Beggining September 19, Sarah Uriarte Berry will play the role of Belle, and Donny Osmond will play Gaston.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Posted: 8/15/06 at 6:43pmWow that is really great news about Stuart Marland taking over! I think he will do a great job. Also glad to hear about Sarah Berry coming back. I loved her in Light in the Piazza and wondered how she was as Belle before, and now she will be doing it again. Does anyone know who replaced Christopher DeAngelis as the Lumiere understudy?

Posted: 8/15/06 at 6:57pmI don't know, maybe John will take over in December or something. I think there might still be truth to that rumor, although I am not quite sure if I want it to be true.

Marland is the in-between person. Young, then Marland, then Tartaglia. It's a busy time at Beauty and the Beast.
I second the question about the Lumiere understudy slot - I am still looking for a complete current cast list if anyone has one handy.

I can at least help here. Bret Shuford took over for Chris (www.bretshuford.com).
dancin, I'm planning on heading back in next Tues to check out Stuart Marland, so if ya want, I'll type out the playbill info for ya then, via PM.
