"Jesse L. Martin, the nine-year veteran of TV's "Law & Order," might have something new on his plate — a Broadway-aimed stage version of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Martin, whose last appearance on the flagship "Law & Order" series is scheduled for April 23, is currently in negotiations to star as Dr. John Prentice — the role made famous by Sidney Poitier — in the Kenny Leon-directed Dinner play.
Exact production dates have not been announced, but a fall launch is expected. No other casting is public.
Leon staged Broadway's recent A Raisin in the Sun. Martin created the role of Collins in the groundbreaking musical Rent..."

I'm so glad I searched and didn't write a new thread
that is fantastic. i'm so excited
This is one of my favourite movies. If done right, the play could be really great... with Jesse L Martin in it, at least it should be pretty.

I was watching this the other day in my Critical Encounters History Class (don't ask) and I sat there thinking to myself, "This could be a helluva play." And I certainly hope it is.
I am so very, very, very, very tired of movies being turned into straight plays.
Seeing Jesse L Martin on a Broadway stage would kind of make my life.
I completely agree! This would make me so happy!

"Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofuThis is really exciting for Jesse!

God in heaven, aren't there any real plays they could do? Why take a ridiculously dated flick from the 60s that was never really any good anyway and put it onstage?
Well, there's about two hours of my life that I won't be wasting.
He was so wonderful in rent, he brought so much humanity to the role. I still have the TheaerWeek when it opened and featured him on the cover, which I framed.
