It opened Wednesday night for a run through mid-July. I had not gotten to see it in NY, but Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee, from the original B'way production, are starring here.

In a word: EXCELLENT!

The sets got applause, the dancing was top-notch, the costumes and makeup (to say nothing of the less-than-10-minute costume and makeup changes between scenes), were all impressive feats. A tremendous accomplishment for such a complex production. And the special effects... Well. I thought I'd seen some diverse dancing, acting, costumes, set designs and SFX before, but that chimney sweep number... what a surprise! Such a joy to watch. The dance auditions for this show must have been craaaa-zy, what with the ballet, tap, jazz represented, and...well, that goofy (but fun) "Supercalif..." number.

The only negative would be that the graphics computer went on the fritz a couple of times in Act I, and the audience could see where it said "projector" at the top of the stage a couple of times, but by Act II, it looked like they got it handled.

The leads were wonderful.

Good stuff.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had the practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." --Alice in Wonderland
