I'm excited about this!
I gues 2 months of rehearsals wasn't just for the show...

Posted: 9/25/06 at 7:44pmIt's just the ensemble. I checked it out on the website.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 9:40pmJust a thought: Ensemble only, no leads, could it be a recording for the "Carols for a Cure" CD for this year? I only suggest it because there are a lot of tracks on past recordings that are ensemble only. Not that I wouldn't MIND an OBCR of MP.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 9:55pmBryan, the difference between In My Life and Mary Poppins is that, the former (I hate to say this) sucks and the latter is not only one of the greatest scores written for the movies, but a brilliant stage score in its own right. The lyrics (new and old) are quite clever and the music (new and old as well) are beautiful, tuneful and amusing. In My Life was none of those things. (And any show with "Feed the Birds" no matter how over amplified it sounds in the theatre gets a plus in my book.)

kinda jackin this thread, but, I think the arrangements for stage version of Step in Time are the best.
So amazing.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 9:59pmI don't care for the orchestrations in some of the songs. Brohn has used the synthezizer too much. Those twangy electric guitar sounds just bug the crap out of me. He needs more strings.

Posted: 9/26/06 at 1:28amJV, it's funny, I feel just the opposite. I love the violin/viola-less instrumentation and hope to God it stays that way. The start of spoonful of sugar with that lone bowed cello and stringed bass plucking compliments LMK voice so well, I love it. I love the entire orchestration, it's perhaps the most perfect I've heard other than the Sweeney revival. As you can tell, I'm more about minimalist orchestration and drawing raw power out of less instruments. I also despise beefing up string sections on cast albums. I love the raw sound of just a couple violins, part of the reason I go to Broadway shows, it's a special sound. Enough of my rant.

duh! of course there is going to be a ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING!! DUH DUH DUH!!!
Whoever thought there wouldn't be has to be some sort of numbnut!
BTW: The show is utterly amazing, saw the original cast, and then saw it again with creel.
There is NOTHING like this show ever! NOTHING! Be prepared to watch it make history when it opens, its gonna be huge!! The special effects are amazing. I don't want to give anything away, but just WAIT till they sing "Step In Time" What happens in that number is gonna make u piss your pants out of amazement!

Posted: 9/26/06 at 6:51amI don't think it was that much of a sure thing. A lot of British imports that have become huge hits have not received Broadway cast recordings (Phantom, Mamma Mia, and Miss Saigon come to mind).

Posted: 9/26/06 at 8:39amI'm with adamgreer - I didn't think it was such a sure thing either - the trend for cast recordings of London and New York casts seems to be declining - Phantom has one, the Producers has one, it's looking like Wicked will only have one etc.
