I have my college audition at Marymount Manhattan College this weekend.
I was just wondering if any other aspiring actors on this board are applying/auditioning at Marymount. Anyone?

I have a friend/co-star (he was Ren, I was Chuck in a local production of FOOTLOOSE two years ago) that is a freshman at the school right now... however he is considering dropping out and transferring to another school because he says "the program is good, but just not for him". I just think he has no work ethic and, as is the case with many talented, young performers- they are told yes in every school and community production, and then they get to college and are told No- and can't handle it. Be prepared and be ready to hear that word many times... best of luck!
Thanks for the information.
Yeah, I have no problem with 'no'. I realize that it has to come along with the business.

You also have to realize when you get to college you are not always going to get the leading role. Everyone in the program is probably used to getting the leads all through High School. Thats not how its going to be for most people in college, so you have to get used to playing ensemble roles.

Marymount is a great school. One you get into the theatre dept you can have a lot of fun. I hated it at first, but once i got "in" i had so much more fun.
my friend will be auditioning for it soon. she's a dance major-or will be a dance major.
when i was doing the college auditions i auditioned at MMC. like most college auditions, you will know immediately if it is for you or not, just by the way the audition is handled. hope you get a good experience there. have fun!
I'm a Sophomore at Marymount - but in the technical/directing program. Personally, I'm not thrilled with how the theater dept is run - have had a few *cough* friendly *cough* discussions with the faculty already.
You can end up with some pretty good acting teachers. And don't focus too much on getting parts on the mainstage, get involved with STAM (Student theater at marymount) they put on shows just as good (if not much better) than the mainstage shows.

Have to disagree. I was not entirely pleased with STAM shows. This is not about the people who them together, but the quality of the show was just sloppy. I hate sloppy theatre. I don't want to start a fight about it.
Yes... I do agree about the mainstage. It is hard to get involved with the mainstage. But then again, we only do 4 shows a year and there are 500 theatre majors.
So not everyone gets involved and just like the real world, its all about being apart of it being "in" the network. Either way, Its what you make of it. :)

MMC only does four shows a year? Are you talking four of any kind? That's crazy. I agree with you about STAM shows if the one I saw was any example. I went with some others from Tisch because a younger sister of a friend was thinking of applying to MMC and was in town to visit.

MMC does 4 mainstage shows. There are STAM, Marymount Off Broadway, Dance Shows, and Directing Projects as well. But yes....4 Shows. What STAM show did u see by the way?
