The day is broken up into 3 parts.... Dance, Singing and Acting (in that order).
For the dance part, they split you up into two groups depending on how much experience you've had. They teach you a short routine, and you perform it in small groups. The dance part does not count against you, it is strictly for placement.
For Singing, you need to prepare one Ballad and one Up-Tempo musical theatre peice. Have your best 16 bars ready, but be fimiliar with the rest of the song, becuase they may ask you to do more. Also, never just bring your 2 songs. Bring a couple of other peices that you are good at. There were several people that they said "Can we hear you sing something else?" and they had nothing else prepared... kinda embaressing.
After these 2 segments, there is an informational meeting for students and their families. They will answer any questions you may have.
Finally comes the Acting part. You must prepare a 2 minute monlogue from a published contemporary play. They highly request that you do not use a monologue from a musical. You are timed, and they WILL stop you after 2 minutes. A few people in my group were stopped for going over.
All the auditions are done in a classroom-style environment. They split you up into groups in the begining, and your mostly with the same kids all day. There were about 20 kids in my group, and you are in small classrooms. So it's not like you are auditioning infront of a million people in a huge theatre. Also, the professors who are on the panal are very friendly, and try their hardest not to be intimidating.
Hope this helps... and good luck next year!!!

Posted: 3/13/05 at 10:28pmI was very nervous about the classroom auditions on Saturday, since I didn't know that's how it was going to be run, but I think I ended up doing very well. They have you do about ten minutes of warm ups and relaxation exercises which really do wonders for your nerves.
